Pretoria - Government has called on beneficiaries of its Human Settlements programme to desist from selling their government-subsidised RDP houses.
Cabinet spokesperson, Jimmy Manyi, on Thursday said the practise was illegal.
This follows simmering tensions between residents and foreigners in Alexandra after a group calling themselves the Alexandra Bonafides gave foreign nationals a week's notice to vacate the RDP houses in Extensions 7 and 10.
Briefing media after an ordinary Cabinet meeting, Manyi said government condemned these threats saying it would not tolerate any form of violence.
"Government will not be held to ransom by vigilante activities and will bring the full might of security and justice system against those found conducting or partnering in these activities," he said.
He said Cabinet had noted the progress on engagements between government and civil society organisations regarding the matter. "These engagements are continuing. Cabinet is, however, pleased with the presence of officials and security forces to maintain peace and order," said Manyi.
