Pretoria - Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 in their second 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match with underdogs Botswana in Gaborone on Saturday.
In their opening match of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, South Africa drew by the same score-line against Ethiopia while Botswana lost to Central Africa Republic so both teams were in need of maximum points.
This was caretaker coach Steve Komphela's first game in charge after former coach Pitso Mosimane's four-year contract was terminated by the South African Football Association (Safa) earlier in the week.
Komphela said: "When we got our goal we thought this is it, but it was not to be. We have said this has to stop because it is frustrating the players and everyone.....the nation deserves better, but we are optimistic that we will get back on track.
"We believe, we should have won the match because we did everything right just that we could not find the result we were looking for. There is still a long road to travel, but we are not happy with two points out of a possible six, with four matches to go, but we can't give up now."
Bafana skipper, Steven Pienaar added: "this is a match we should have won, but again we did not convert our chances. We really wanted three points, but it did not happen and we should also not be too harsh on ourselves because this could be a crucial point in the end, but we just have to keep on fighting."
Later this afternoon, Ethiopia will host group A leaders Central African Republic (CAR). Bafana Bafana's next 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier will be away to CAR on 22 March 2013.
The country's national rugby team, the Springboks as always continued to make the nation proud when they beat England 22-17 in their Test at Durban's Kings Park on Saturday.
