Durban - With the tagline, the warmest place to be, Durban emerged as the only candidate from South Africa bidding to host the 2020 Olympics.

Government is expected to meet with the city's officials next month to decide if a formal bid is to be submitted.

Bids from interested cities will only be submitted next July to the International Olympic Committee.

South Africa's Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) did invite three other cities, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth to bid for the prestigious event.

Should Durban make an official bid, competition will possibly come from Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul and Dubai.

The winner to host the 2020 Olympics will be announced in 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
