Pretoria - The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development has launched a new e-Maintenance Pilot Project at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
The project is aimed at ensuring an effective responsiveness to service delivery breakdowns at the hospital.
Infrastructure Development MEC Qedani Mahlangu said the pilot project at the country’s biggest hospital will enable the public to use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter as well as the website of the department to log service delivery queries.
The public will also be able to walk in at the hospital’s reception desk to register maintenance queries.
“This will enable members of the public to register queries on infrastructure maintenance problems they have encountered at any part of the hospital, so that the department can attend to them speedily,” said Mahlangu at the launch on Thursday.
The e-Maintenance Pilot Project is being implemented in partnership with the Department of Health.
“This system puts power in the hands of ordinary members of the public to be the eyes and ears of the community in ensuring that quality service is delivered. This initiative also strengthens the partnership between government and communities in ensuring that officials attend to service delivery issues diligently and on time,” Mahlangu said.
The e-Maintenance Pilot Project is part of the new maintenance plan that will operate 24 hours, seven days a week and 356 days.
Through this initiative, the department aims to attend to minor breakdowns within 24 hours, and for major breakdowns within seven days, and to attend to major refurbishments within 365 days.
Highly skilled personnel have been recruited in order to ensure that there is adequate capacity to upscale maintenance to attend to service queries. - SAnews.gov.za
