Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe says education remains critical to eradicating poverty.
Addressing to graduates at the 30th Anniversary Celebrations and graduation ceremony at the University of Venda (Univen), where he is also a Chancellor, Motlanthe was confident that their achievement in completing their studies would go a long way towards eradicating the challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment that still plague society.
"Contributing to the success of our nation, and helping others in your families and communities, is the most fitting way to thank your parents, families, and sponsors for having sacrificed so much to get you here," Motlanthe told graduates.
About 1 700 students were graduating in different areas such as Schools of Agriculture, Social Sciences, Law, Environmental Sciences, Management Sciences, Health Sciences, Education as well as Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The Deputy President said all these schools provide the necessary research output and produce graduates needed for the development of our nation.
