Pretoria- Eskom and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) are set to continue talks today after the power parastatal secured a court interdict preventing workers from embarking on strike action.
The union had intended strike over health and safety matters and housing allowances.
Eskom was granted an urgent court interdict late yesterday preventing workers from taking part in industrial action as from today onwards.
"Eskom is an essential service and employees of an organisation classified as such are prohibited from taking part in industrial action. Engaging in any such action would be considered unlawful," said the parastatal in a statement.
"Workers were supposed to march to Megawatt Park today to hand over a memorandum to management," NUM spokesperson Shane Choshane said.
Choshane however added that the union was informing its members of the interdict: "However we are not sure if some of our members will still march to Megawatt Park due to information not reaching them."
Eskom said if the strike action does take place, contingency plans are in place to ensure security of supply.
The parties held talks at the weekend where they both committed to working together with the central bargaining process.
"The parties discussed three issues in particular - full-time safety representatives, the recognition agreement, and a housing allowance. The parties made significant progress on all the three issues," said Eskom.
