Pretoria – It’s all systems go for the final Freedom Friday celebration at the Rand Show, Nasrec Expo Centre, tomorrow.
The Department of Arts and Culture, together Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Lead SA and Proudly SA, will host a short celebration ahead of 27 April.
Members of the public are invited to show their national pride and join the festivities at the Rand Show on Friday morning.
Flags, pins and badges will be handed out. The Freedom Fridays Campaign encourages South Africans to display their patriotism by wearing anything that shows their pride in being South African.
This could be the colours of the national flag or the jersey of their favourite national team.
"We should come together as a nation to celebrate our achievements, own up to the remaining challenges and commit to working together towards a shared and prosperous future," said Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile in early April during the launch of Freedom Month.
"Our programmes are geared at reminding South Africans, especially young people, of where we come from as a nation; that our freedom was not free and that we have an obligation to defend it jealously," he said at the time.
The public not attending the Rand Show can also mark the day by sharing their thoughts, video clips, memories and pictures of freedom across various social media platforms. Twitter: @20_yof and @ArtsCultureSA or Facebook: www.Facebook.com/20yof
South Africans are also encouraged to show their pride, wear their colours, take a selfie and upload it to social media using the hashtag #FreedomFridaySelfie and/or #20YOFSelfie. – SAnews.gov.za
