Pretoria - Investigations for the millions of rands stolen following a break in at the FNB stadium few hours after the back-to back concerts by Bon Jovi and Justin Bieber at the weekend, is still underway, says Gauteng police spokesperson Lt. Colonel Katlego Mogale.
Mogale said while no one had been arrested, “the video footage is currently being applied for and the investigation is underway.”
She said thieves broke into a safe room at the stadium and made off with the cash from the concession stands and all the merchandising stores at the stadium.
Mogale said millions of rands have been stolen, following the break in, which was only noticed on Monday morning.
“It is alleged that the complainant had locked money in the walk-in safe following the Justin Bieber concert and left for home last night (Sunday) at about 23h00.
“On Monday, morning when she arrived to report on duty, she discovered that several doors leading to the main safe had been tampered with,” she said.
According to Mogale, the suspect (s) gained entrance through the bathroom roof leading to the safe wall and forced it open.
“The suspects then used rope to gain entry from the roof to the safe, removed millions of rands in cash,” she said.
According to media reports, the criminals spent days chiselling away at a double-thick wall leading to the safe room.
Once the stadium emptied, they climbed through the hole and used ropes to drop down three metres to the cash boxes below. - SAnews.gov.za
