Pretoria - Forty-two people have been arrested in Rabie Ridge, Midrand, following service delivery protests on Monday.
"A total 42 people were arrested for public violence today following protest action that started at midnight," said police spokesperson Sergeant Joyce Setshedi.
Setshedi said police fired rubber bullets at protesters, who throughout the night barricaded roads, including Modderfontein Road, with burning tyres.
"These barricades were blocking traffic," she said, adding that they had since been removed.
Police will continue to monitor the situation which has since calmed down following police engagement with community leaders.
