Pretoria - Freedom Park has announced that it has dismissed its head of department for heritage and knowledge following a pre-dismissal arbitration hearing at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
In a statement on Thursday, Freedom Park said senior manager Ramzie Abrahams had been found guilty in a disciplinary hearing of gross financial misconduct for failing to disclose a conflict of interest with an entity to which a tender had been awarded.
It said law enforcement agencies were investigating further criminal charges against Abrahams for contravening the Public Finance Management Act.
Freedom Park CEO Fana Jiyane said the institution had a “zero tolerance policy on corruption”.
“Freedom Park is a place of remembrance for the fallen heroes and heroines who gave their lives in the struggle for freedom and an icon of hope for our nation. As such, corrupt acts of this kind cannot be countenanced as they defile this precious memory, destroy the hopes of our nascent democracy and rob the poor of badly needed service delivery,” said Jiyane. – SAnews.gov.za
