Eight suspects have been arrested and illicit goods valued at R572 490 have been seized in a police operation in Gauteng.
The eight suspects are due to appear in court soon.
“The Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, SAPS Lenasia and Gauteng Wardens conducted a joint operation targeting counterfeit and illicit goods in Lenasia, arresting eight suspects and seizing goods valued at R572 490 on Tuesday, 29 October 2024,” said the South African Police Service (SAPS) in a statement.
In its statement on Wednesday, the SAPS said the operation yielded results, with 4001 illicit items seized, including cellphone accessories, consumable goods and pharmaceutical products.
“Seven [of the] suspects [were] arrested for dealing in illicit goods and one suspect [was] arrested for theft,” said the police, adding that the operation demonstrated the police's commitment to combating counterfeit and illicit trade, protecting consumers and legitimate businesses. -SAnews.gov.za
