Johannesburg – Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has visited the family and friends of 101-year-old Mme Motlalepula Moalusi, who passed away last week.
Moalusi passed away four months after receiving her new home from the provincial government , reports the Gauteng Provincial Government.
As part of the Gauteng province’s Women’s Month programme, last August, the provincial government decided to honour the golden oldie of Lewisham, Kagiso, by building her a brand new house.
Paying her respects to the family on Wednesday, Mokonyane said she was pleased that her government had fulfilled Moalusi’s wish of leaving a decent home for her children to live in.
“We have heard that Mme Moalusi has rested and we have come to pay our last respects to the family. We are delighted that when her time came, she was already staying in her beautiful house,” said Mokonyane.
One of Moalusi’s children, Kiba Mogapi, said her mother died peacefully.
“We are saddened by her death but at the same time, we knew this time would come because our mother was old. We will miss her jokes and nicknames she had given us.
“We will forever be grateful to our government. They have showed us how much they care. Our mother is sleeping peacefully, knowing that she left us in a proper home,” said Mogapi.
Her old leaking house was demolished in August and rebuilt to the tune of more than R330 000.
Moalusi will be laid to rest on Friday in Kagiso. – SAnews.gov.za
