Pretoria - Cabinet has joined the chorus of well-wishers for SA's national women's soccer team.

Banyana Banyana are about to go into one of the biggest events on the soccer calendar - the 2010 CAF African Women Championship (AWC) and hopes are high they will put on a good show and make the country proud.

"Cabinet wishes Banyana Banyana well in this tournament and urges the country to rally behind our girls," it said in a statement.

The seventh edition of the CAF AWC will kick-off with the opening Group A match between Banyana Banyana and Tanzania at Sinaba Stadium in Gauteng on 31 October at 1pm.

They will then lock horns with Africa's powerhouse, Nigeria, on 4 November at 11am and Mali on 7 November at 3.30pm.

The tournament, which will take place in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, will end on 14 November, with the two finalists qualifying for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.

Banyana Banyana concluded the final touches of their tournament preparations with a clean 4-0 win over their northern neighbour, Zimbabwe, in Tembisa at Makhulong stadium last Sunday.

The championship is a biennial competition in women's football for national teams that belong to the Confederation of African Football and a qualifying tournament for the final phase of FIFA Women's World Cup.
