The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Velenkosini Hlabisa, is organising a significant national convention for Khoi-San leaders.

This convention aims to address and find enduring solutions to the challenges the leaders have highlighted, including issues related to the recognitionion of Khoi-San communities.

This event follows a series of preliminary engagements that the Minister held with various Khoi-San leaders.

According to the CoGTA Department, these discussions have laid a solid foundation for the upcoming convention, considering the complexities surrounding the concerns raised.

Hlabisa emphasised the importance of constructive dialogue before, during, and after the convention to facilitate constitutional and statutory recognition of the Khoi-San people.

The Minister has consistently stated that the process undertaken by the seventh administration of CoGTA to engage with Khoi-San stakeholders must succeed.

“The process should contribute to bringing about unity and ultimately cooperation on the leadership and the process going forward for the Khoi-San communities,” the Minister explained.

The three-day convention will kick-start on Friday, 14 February 2025, at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Gauteng. – SAnews.gov.za
