Pretoria - Government has urged that it be afforded the space to conduct its work following media reports that a Cabinet reshuffle is on the cards.

Government spokesperson Themba Maseko said government had noted the media speculation about a reshuffle. This includes names that have been proposed for appointment or removal.

"We wish to emphasise that any change to the composition of the Executive is the prerogative of the President of the Republic of South Africa. Only the President knows whether or not there will be a reshuffle, what form it would take if there was one, when it would happen if it is to happen and other details," said Maseko.

He added: "We urge that Cabinet be afforded the necessary respect and space to do its work."
