GP police commissioner’s contract nears end

Pretoria - Gauteng Police chief  Lieutenant-General Mzwandile Petros has not resigned, however, his contract with the South African Police Service is about to end.

“Indeed his contract as Gauteng Provincial Commissioner ends on 15 August 2013 … Petros and the National Commissioner General Riah Phiyega are in discussions about his contract and other matters,” police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said on Thursday.

Makgale said Phiyega will make an announcement in this regard in the near future.

Petros, who has been commended for his prompt response to crime, was appointed as the provincial commissioner in 2010. Before, he served as provincial commissioner in the Western Cape for seven years. – SAnews.gov.za
