Pretoria - Operations at the Rusthof Old Age Home in the Western Cape are back to normal following a blaze there, that claimed the lives of three people over the weekend.
The fire gutted six rooms, housing 12 people in the frail care unit.
Western Cape Social Development spokesperson, Danny Abrahams, told BuaNews on Tuesday that the residents, who had been evacuated to a nearby school, have been moved back to the facility, whilst residents from the frail care unit, have been moved to a nearby frail care centre.
"Prisoners from Allandale Correctional Centre came and helped with the clean up and the facility is operating again," said Abrahams, adding that the department has offered counselling to the victims, including staff working at the facility.
Abrahams said four residents are still in the hospital with one resident being transferred to Tigerberg Hospital in a critical condition.
It is still not clear what caused the fire and police investigations are continuing. The Old Age Home accommodates 106 residents
