Pretoria - Major generals have been appointed to head the Hawks units in the provinces, the crime-fighting body said on Thursday.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), known as the Hawks, says the appointments will ensure stability at provincial level.
The appointed major generals will be responsible for daily operations.
Major General Jabulani Zikhali has been appointed to head the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal.
Zikhali has 32 years working experience and was the Acting Cluster Commander of Durban Central before his appointment to head the Hawks in the province.
The Hawks’ Section Head of Serious Organised Crime, Major General Ntombizodwa Mokoena, has been elevated to be the Hawks’ head in Mpumalanga.
With over 28 years of experience in the service, criminals are in for a torrid time as Mokoena counts heading the national Serious Organised Crime Unit for over five years as one of her stripes.
Major General Linda Mbana will head the Hawks in the North West. With three law degrees, the current Northern Cape Provincial Head of Legal Services will rely on her 10 years’ experience in the SAPS’ legal environment to keep criminals at bay.
The Eastern Cape will be headed by Major General Nyameko Nogwanya.
Having accumulated 21 years of experience in the Crime Operation Support and Legal Department in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, the current Provincial Head of Legal Services in Mpumalanga will cherish the challenge of serving the people from his province of birth.
Major General Kholekile Galawe, who was the acting head in the Eastern Cape, has been appointed to head the provincial Hawks in the Northern Cape.
Having accumulated 15 years of experience in the service, Galawe relieves Major General Liziwe Ntshinga, who has been juggling as the Acting Provincial Head of both the Northern Cape and Free State.
Ntshinga will now solely focus on the Free State and brings to the table 30 years working experience.
Major General Thobeka Jozi’s two law degrees and 14 years’ experience in the policing environment will come in handy in ridding Limpopo of all serious organised crime, serious corruption and fraud.
KwaZulu-Natal will also have a new Provincial Commander of Organised Crime in Brigadier Bongani Maqashalala, who has been heading Crime Intelligence in the Eastern Cape. He has 31 years’ experience in the service.
Brigadier Mmeli Makinyane, the provincial commander of Commercial Crime in the North West, has been appointed as the Provincial Commander of Serious Economic Offences in Pretoria, while the former station commander of Makhado in Limpopo, Brigadier Mushavhaduvha Ramovha has been appointed the Provincial Commander of Anti-Corruption in the Western Cape Province. – SAnews.gov.za
