Hawks not investigating Dudu Myeni

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Pretoria - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks, has dismissed reports that it is investigating South African Airways (SAA) chairperson Dudu Myeni.

“For the record, Miss Dudu Myeni is not being investigated by the Hawks,” Hawks head lieutenant-General Berning Mthandazo Ntlemeza said on Wednesday.

However, the directorate has confirmed that it is investigating illegal activities at the airline. These include alleged theft, fraud and corruption involving contracts, agreements, tenders, procurement and the irregular closure of SAA routes in Senegal, India and Beijing,

The investigation is also set to scrutinise allegations of sabotage, irregular use of private investigators to spy and solicit confidential information with a view to undermine operations and safety of passengers.

Ntlemeza said since the start of the investigations last year, Myeni has been instrumental in providing the Hawks with information.

“We remain committed to carrying out our mandate of uncovering the truth at SAA and the public will be kept abreast of developments as and when it is necessary,” added Ntlemeza.-SAnews.gov.za
