Health services come closer to the people

Pretoria - Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe, will unveil a new aimed at bringing health services to the doorsteps of those in need across the province. 

The Health Posts plan, to be officially unveiled in Boipatong, Sedibeng, is aimed at giving community oriented primary healthcare to reduce waiting times at local clinics, as well as to bring services closer to people. 

The initiative also aims to take chronic medication directly to patients at home, attending to minor ailments and providing elementary care closer to communities. 

Each health post will be manned by a clinical team consisting of doctors, nurses, social workers and other allied health professionals as well as the Community Health Workers. 

The clinical team will be responsible for all social and health related issues of the community under their care.

Complicated conditions will be referred to Boipatong Community Health Care for further engagement. 

The process is expected to roll out in all other sub-districts in Sedibeng.

The next implementation will be in Mamello, Sharpville and Bophelong in the Vaal.
