Pretoria - Learners in Gauteng who have qualified for supplementary exams can now register for free preparatory classes, which will be offered for various subjects

Learners have until 20 January 2012 to register, provincial spokesperson Charles Phahlane said.

"The purpose of the programme is to support learners who are preparing to write the supplementary examinations, so as to improve learner performance in these subjects. The programme classes will be run by highly competent specialist teachers."

Phahlane said the extra lessons will focus on techniques and skills to answering typical exam questions and revising key content areas of the curriculum.

The tuition programme is free of charge but learners who wish to attend must complete a registration form available at Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, as well as the Gauteng Department of Education website.

The classes will be offered during weekends in February and will cover subjects like Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Science, Life Sciences, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies, Geography and History.

However, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre has set up a weekly programme where learners can study Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting and Life Science daily with the help of subject specialists.

This will take place from Monday, 6 February to Friday, 24 February, and will run from 1pm to 4pm. The venue will be Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg which can be contacted on 011 639 8400.

Various centres will also be offering their services. Interested learners can visit www.gpg.education.gov.za to get the list of centres nearer to their homes.
