Pretoria – Home Affairs offices across the country will be open over this weekend, which is the last Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voter registration drive.
This is to give citizens an opportunity to get IDs and other supporting documents to enable them to register for the upcoming general election.
Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor has directed the department to open all its 403 offices across the country from 8am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday in support of the final voter registration weekend.
In addition, Pandor has deployed all senior managers, including the Director-General and all other Deputy Directors-General, to visit all provinces during the weekend to oversee the work of Home Affairs.
The department has called on those who have not yet collected their IDs to do so during the weekend.
In agreement with the IEC, both the green-bar coded ID and the newly launched Smart ID Card will be acceptable as legal forms of identity for registration and voting during the 2014 general elections. – SAnews.gov.za
