Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs has welcomed the sentencing of a former official who was sentenced to 11 years on charges of fraud and corruption.
Primrose Dyonase was sentenced in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday.
She will serve eight years in prison as she received a suspended sentence of three years.
“Dyonase submitted falsified travel and subsistence claims between January and December 2012 totalling more than R145 000.
“She had paid gratification to the tune of R45 000 to former senior accounting clerk, Mr Selby Skosana, who is serving six years in prison,” the Department of Home Affairs said.
Dyonase's pension fund was frozen as the Asset Forfeiture Unit has been granted a confiscation order to recover the amount defrauded.
The Department of Home Affairs believes the sentencing of Dyonase will serve as a deterrent to officials who intend to engage in fraud and corruption activities. – SAnews.gov.za
