Pretoria - The new chairperson and deputy chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders have been announced by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Sicelo Shiceka.
Kgosi Phopolo Pontsho Maubane of Bakgatla ba Mocha in the North West is to be the new chairperson while Kgoshigadi Moremadi Mothapo of Bakgaga ba Mothapo in Limpopo was named the deputy chairperson.
Kgosi Maubane was promoted after serving as the deputy chairperson under Khosi Kutama.
Shiceka, as minister responsible for traditional leaders, said government was working hard to ensure that the chiefs get the recognition they deserve.
"We hope to bring dignity they deserve. As government we also ensuring good relationship between the chiefs and the councilors."
Kgosi Maubane said he will be working hand in hand with government in ensuring that the needs of the people are attended to. "I will also ensure that there are good relations between the chiefs and the municipalities," he said.
Deputy chairperson, Kgoshigadi Mothapo said she would work towards ensuring that women's issues are addressed. "I promise that I'll see to it that I advance women's issues."
