Pretoria - Minister of International Relations Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will today be hosting a school imbizo, modelled on the United Nations General Assembly to be held next week, for learners from disadvantaged schools.

The imbizo is expected to give learners a sense of the functioning and deliberations of the General Assembly and enrich their understanding of the world of multilateralism.

Participating schools are Kgomotso High School from Soshanguve, Saulridge Comprehensive High from Atteridgeville and two schools in the immediate vicinity of the Department, HF Verwoerd High School and Clapham High School.

According to Nkoana-Mashabane, the outreach program is part of the department's strategy to familiarise the learners of South Africa with the country's foreign policy and institutionalising international relations

"Indeed this will enhance the learners understanding of the nature of international politics, thus creating interest in the world of global politics," explained the minister.

She will be joined by representatives from the provincial and local government as well as school principals and teachers.
