Italian national killed in N West plane crash

Pretoria - A 49-year-old Italian national has died after a plane crash at PC Pelser Airport in Klerksdorp.

According to North West police, the man was participating in an air show when the plane crashed on Saturday.

"It alleged that two pilots were flying in different planes showcasing their skill, making circular flying tricks close to the ground. The two planes were flying parallel to each other when Gian Franco Cigione lost control and crashed into the ground," said Captain Amanda Funani.

Cigione's plane crashed next to Klerksdorp Cemetery. He died at the scene.

There were no other people were injures.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage and police were investigating, Funani added.
