Pretoria - Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha says he will reflect on the judgment and its implications of the Pretoria High Court judgment.
On Thursday, the High Court decided that Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions Nomgcobo Jiba and Special Director of Public Prosecutions Lawrence Mrwebi should be struck off the roll of advocates, following an application by the General Council of the Bar of SA (GCB).
The GCB applied for their removal because of scathing criticism in different judgments on how Jiba and Mrwebi conducted litigation on behalf of the prosecuting authority in three politically sensitive cases.
Judge Francis Legodi found the pair not to be fit to practice as advocates as they acted in bad faith by protecting former crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli from prosecution on charges of fraud and corruption.
Both Jiba and Mrwebi have indicated that they will seek leave to appeal the court ruling.
In a statement from his office, the Minister said he will reflect on the judgment and its implications.
βIn his capacity as Cabinet member responsible for administration of justice and exercising final responsibility over the National Prosecuting Authority, Minister Masutha will interface with the National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams in this regard,β the Ministry said. β SAnews.gov.za
