Labour announces new appointments

Pretoria - The Department of Labour on Tuesday announced a major shift in its management structures following the appointment of its Chief Operating Officer Aggy Moiloa to the vacant post of Deputy Director-General: Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES).

The department has further granted the transfer of Shadrack Mkhonto, from the post of Compensation Fund Commissioner to the post of Chief Operating Officer.

The transfers are effective from 1 June 2015.

Vuyo Mafata, the Chief Financial Officer at the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), another entity of the department, has been appointed Acting Commissioner at the Compensation Fund with effect from 1 June 2015.

Labour Director-General Thobile Lamati on Tuesday told the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) in Parliament that the new Commissioner of the Compensation Fund will be appointed at the end of August 2015.

Meanwhile, Lamati has left for Geneva to join a team of local technical experts at the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Conference.

The meeting, which started on Monday, is expected to end next week.

The South African delegation at the ILOs conference includes departmental officials, labour, business and members of Portfolio Committee on Labour.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant is expected to join the South African delegation later this week.

The International Labour Conference will among other things discuss labour migration and employment strategies, graduation from informal economy and strengthening ILO Convention 29 on forced labour. – SAnews.gov.za
