Limited services at Brakpan testing centre

Pretoria - Ekurhuleni residents have been warned that the Brakpan Licensing Centre in Ekurhuleni is operating under limited capacity following a burglary last Friday.

"Only bookings for learner's licences and driver's licence renewals will be processed, and only minimum Professional Driving Permits will be issued. Services not involving eye testing will continue as usual," said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson, Justice Mohale.

Four specialised Live Scanning Unit (LCU) computers, which are used for eye testing, were stolen in the break in in the early hours of Friday morning.

The centre is currently only using one machine, although another two machines will be connected before the end of the week to minimise the effects of the robbery.

"Two machines, which were in storage, will replace the stolen equipment. In the meantime, services rendered will be limited. The metro also wishes to apologise for having turned back some customers yesterday morning due to an offline Information Technology system," he said

The metro is appealing to clients to exercise patience at the centre.
