Polokwane - Limpopo sporting stars athlete Caster Semenya and Banyana Banyana striker Noko Matlou are all set for the 2012 London Olympics.
Provincial Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba said the two need to keep in mind that the whole country will be watching in hopes that they bring home accolades.
"Caster and Noko's qualifying for the Olympic Games and their inclusion in Team South Africa once again proves that Limpopo has an abundance of both unearthed and recognised sporting talent. Many more athletes from this province will, in future, be representing South Africa at prestigious sporting events," said Letsatsi-Duba in a statement.
The MEC said the fact that Semenya and Matlou qualified for the Olympics was an inspiration to thousands of young people in Limpopo.
"They have inspired many young people from the province to follow in their footsteps and aim for greater heights. They need to make us and the young people in our province proud and (create) a legacy for (future generations)," she said.
The Aganang local municipality also congratulated the two and wished them well.
Semenya, an 800m runner, was born in Masehlong in the Moletjie area and was honoured as the best sports personality during the municipality's 8th Annual Achievers Awards in 2010.
Matlou, who was born in Ga-Phaudi, also in the Moletjie area, was honoured in the same category during the 9th Achievers Awards in 2011.
"It is quite an honour and we are obviously excited to have the two in the London-bound South African team. Our focus between July 27 and August 12 will be on them," said Aganang mayor Maria Mokobodi.
"We are fully behind them and the rest of the South African team. May their successes continue to inspire other upcoming sports persons."
