Pretoria - The Department of Local Government and Housing in Limpopo has dispatched a team of officials to Greater Tzaneen area to assess damage caused by storms last night.

Affected areas are Burgesdorp, Lenyenye, Tickyline and Gavasa Village.

"The [assessment] report will advise the department in terms of what needs to be done and possible interventions depending on the severity of the incidents," said department spokesperson Clayson Monyela.

Preliminary reports indicates that between 150 to 200 families have been affected.

Some of the houses have been completely destroyed while others have been severely damaged.

The affected families have been offered temporary accommodation in community halls and tents.
