Pretoria - Deputy Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi will today hand over a media room to Makwarela Primary School in Sibasa, Limpopo.
Fifteen-year-old Tshilidzi Phalanndwa, who is a learner at the school, was the overall winner in the praise singing category of the Baswa Le Meetse (Youth in Water) national competition, and won the media room for her school, which is sponsored by MTN.
The competition is an initiative of the Department of Water Affairs, which aims to increase awareness of water resource management and to stimulate the youth to educate society about issues of water through the arts.
Prizes are awarded in five categories namely, drama, praise singing, poetry, poster and traditional music.
The first prize package includes a media room (20 computers), a multifunctional printer, an overhead projector, two data cards and modems plus R1 000 monthly allowance for the running cost of e-mail and internet for 24 months, and a cash prize of R 6000.
Local traditional leader, Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli, also donated 10 more computers to the school. - SAnews.gov.za
