Ugu - Various local artists have signed up to entertain soccer fans who will be gathered at the public viewing site at the Marburg Sports Ground to watch the FIFA Confederation Cup matches.
DJ 101, Qhawe, DJ Log's, Elvovo Dirrango, Big Nuz, Tira and many more will take to the stage following the broadcasting of matches on giant screens and sound systems.
According to a statement by the Ugu District Municipality, an especially exciting and multi-cultural programme has been confirmed for the opening game on 14 June when South Africa takes on Iraq.
The public viewing site will be operating from the opening ceremony in 14 June until the last match on the 28 June, where people can watch the finals and witness the winner of the 2009 Confederations Cup.
There will also be food stalls, a kiddies playing area, games and a host of other activities. Various prizes and give-aways will be given to the first 1000 people to arrive at the viewing sites each day.
"We call on the public to come out in their numbers to support our country," said acting Mayor of the Ugu District Municipality, Cynthia Mqwebu.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, in partnership with the Ugu and Hibiscus Coast Municipalities, is hosting public viewing sites throughout the tournament to bring the matches closer to the thousands of football lovers at the coast.
Soccer lovers in Richards Bay can view the matches at the Richards Bay Complex.
