Water and Sanitation Minister (DWS), Senzo Mchunu is today expected to conduct an oversight visit to the Clanwilliam Dam infrastructure project in the Western Cape.

The project includes the raising of the Clanwilliam Dam wall by 13 meters, and is one of the biggest government infrastructure investments in the Western Cape.

The department said the direct economic benefit of the project is an additional yield of water for resourcing of poor farmers of the West Coast; the creation of  much-needed jobs for the locals and generally will unlock the economy of the West Coast corridor.

“Last week, the DWS Construction Unit carried out trial blasting at the dam construction site, signalling the beginning of a new era for the project as excavation activities are expected to unleash high-scale activity at the construction in the weeks to come,” the department said in a statement.

During his visit, Mchunu will receive a progress report on the project which will have significant and positive impact for the West Coast and the province. The Minister will also hold a stakeholder engagement with project managers, local farmers, and members of the West Coast community. – SAnews.gov.za
