Metrorail's Saulsville-Pretoria line running

Pretoria – Metrorail’s Saulsville-Pretoria train service in Gauteng has been repaired.

“Gauteng Metrorail is pleased to announce that the Saulsville-Pretoria corridor has been repaired and ready to operate a train service,” Metrorail said on Wednesday.

The line was temporarily suspended after a train collision between Cor Delfos and Kalafong Stations last week. About 300 people were injured in the incident.

"In view of the number of challenges we have experienced in Gauteng over the past weeks, we have managed to address the infrastructure challenges.

“However, the torching of trains and the train collision still poses a serious challenge to the availability of coaches and might result in train cancellations going forward,” said Metrorail Gauteng provincial manager Tembela Kulu.

Kulu appealed to commuters to continue working with Metrorail in protecting trains and cables, and to report any unusual observations witnessed within operational areas.

All commuters that were injured in the collision have been discharged from the various hospitals over the weekend, with the exception of one commuter and the train driver, who are still in hospital and are said to be recuperating well.

Meanwhile, an internal Board of Inquiry, led by a senior executive, has been appointed to investigate in detail the cause of the accident.

Anyone with information that can assist the investigation process may contact the Police and Protection Services on (012) 315-2566 or (012) 315-2777. - SAnews.gov.za
