Minister to lead clean-up campaign in Randfontein

Friday, May 1, 2015

Pretoria - The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa, will on Saturday lead a clean-up campaign in the Randfontein Local Municipality area.

The visit to the area forms part of government’s stakeholder engagements following the recent attacks on foreign nationals in some parts of the country.

The clean-up campaign is also a response to President Jacob Zuma’s call during the June 2014 State of the Nation Address, when he urged all South Africans to dedicate time for cleaning up communities to ensure people live in a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly country.

The outreach activity and clean-up campaign will take place in Mohlakeng Hostel in Randfontein.

The Minister will be accompanied by the leadership of the Randfontein Local Municipality as they collectively engage with stakeholders on pertinent issues and encourage communities to keep South Africa clean.

Government has condemned the violent attacks in the strongest terms and is working to ensure the situation does not recur. – SAnews.gov.za
