Pretoria - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane's son, Africa, today appeared in court and pleaded guilty to a drug-related offence.
While extremely saddened and disappointed by her son's actions, Mokonyane is satisfied that the law has taken its course.
In a statement issued by her office, the premier said Africa has also owned up to the crime and accepted responsibility and will be seeking professional help.
"As premier of this province, I am aware that the scourge of drug abuse is huge in Gauteng and it affects all of us.
"I want to assure residents that this incident will not deter me in the fight against drug abuse, or abuse of any other substance. I call upon all residents to help the government in the fight against the proliferation of drugs and drug abuse," she said.
She urged all young people to heed the advice from the elders and avoid falling into similar trappings.
