Pretoria - The completion of the Moses Kotane hospital in the North West, has taken the province's medical preparedness for the upcoming world cup spectacle a step up.

Situated in Ledig Village near Rustenburg, the hospital will serve as a referral hospital for 45 clinics and four health centres in the Moses Kotane sub-district.

The hospital, together with the Job Shimankana Tabane hospital, will be used during the month-long soccer tournament.

The R196.5 million hospital to be fully operational by 15 May 2010, will also offer an enhanced patient care environment as it boasts a fully fledged casualty and emergency unit, adult and neonatal care, clinical workshop, psychiatric unit, six operating theatres and private ward.

"Wards at the new hospital are built and designed in such a way that they permit installation of new technological equipment like digital machines in the radiological unit, casualty and high care.

"The hospital also boasts a helipad that would make it easier for casualties to be air lifted to other health institutions," said the Department of Health and Social Development in a statement.

The North West will host five matches to be played in Rustenburg, these include matches between England and USA on 12 June, New Zealand and Slovakia on 15 June, Ghana and Australia on 19 June, Mexico and Uruguay on 22 June as well as Denmark against Japan on 24 June 2010.

The province will be home to England and Spain during the tournament. England will be based in Rustenburg whilst Spain will be based in Potchefstroom.
