Mosimane to announce team to face Sierra Leone

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Pretoria - Bafana Bafana Head Coach Pitso Mosimane will today announce the players who have been picked to face Sierra Leone in the crucial 2012 African Nations Cup (AFCON) match next month.

Bafana will travel to Freetown to play Sierra Leone on 9 October.

As Sierra Leone is not expected to be a pushover for Bafana, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has sent a delegation led by the team's acting manager Barney Kujane to inspect facilities.

In 2008, Sierra Leone dented Bafana's chance of qualifying for the 2010 African Nations Cup finals in Angola by securing a 1-nil win. The defeat was an embarrassment for South Africa as they failed to qualify for the Nations Cup finals only a few months before they were to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The West Africans surprised the seven-time champions Egypt to with a 1-1 draw in Cairo during their previous AFCON qualify match last month. The 1-1 draw between Egypt and Sierra Leone left Bafana on top of Group G following their 2-nil win over Niger.

Bafana are also scheduled to play the USA in a Mandela Challenge match at Cape Town Stadium on 17 November.

Next week will be marked as a FIFA week.
