Pretoria - The Mpumalanga Department of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the integrity of the examination process and its outcomes.
MEC for Education, Reginah Mhaule said she was satisfied with the way the 2011 Grade 12 examinations started in the province. The exams kicked off with practical subjects on Monday.
"No glitches were reported as 3 426 wrote practical Computer Application Technology Paper 1," Mhaule said on Tuesday, while learners were preparing to sit for the practical Information Technology Paper 1.
A total of 49 419 full time and 6 401 part time candidates are expected to sit for this year's National Senior Certificate Examination in the province.
Mhaule extended her best wishes to all learners who will be sitting for the examinations and encouraged them to focus on their studies and by staying in contact with their educators by attending their classes until the last day of the examinations.
An optimistic Mhaule said she was confident that learners have gone the extra mile to ensure that they do extremely well in their academic work, assisted by all stakeholders of the education sector emphasising the importance of putting in place every effort to ensure that learners are prepared and ready to participate in their examinations.
"I also request learners to make the province proud by performing outstandingly in their school work. Government has your interest at heart, show us your true potential and excel in your studies."
The exams will end on 1 December 2011, while the marking is expected to start from 1 to 15 December 2011.
