Pretoria - Members of the Northern Cape legislature are still locked in a meeting to decide on the appointment of an acting premier.
According to the Office of the Premier, the acting premier is expected to be appointed and sworn in today.
"The person to be appointed is expected to start work immediately," said Mafu Davids in the Office of the Premier.
The appointment of the acting premier comes after Premier Hazel Jenkins collapsed during the State of the Province Address on Friday.
Davids said the premier was in a stable condition after having surgery performed on her on Saturday.
The medical team is satisfied with her progress.
It is not yet known when she will be discharged from the Kimberley hospital where she is being treated.
"Medical staff is constantly monitoring her," Davids added.
A new date for the State of the Province Address is expected to be announced soon.
