Charlotte Maxeke Hospital’s newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer, Gladys Bogoshi, is aiming to utilise her vast experience to improve the services at the hospital as well as patients’ lives.
Bogoshi, who took up the post on 1 February, said top on the list of her priorities in the first three months, will be to fully implement the six health priorities which are aimed at ensuring that patients are treated with dignity and respect when visiting provincial hospital facilities, according to the Gauteng Provincial Government.
“We will conduct a staff satisfaction survey that will assist us in engaging and addressing issues that they might have.
“We will also look into frontline staff and see if they are being polite and empathetic to patients. Cleanliness, attending promptly to complaints and suggestions, patient safety, infection control, availability of essential drugs, improved waiting times as well as staff training will be at the forefront,” Bogoshi said.
She added that basic facility challenges such as signage, lifts maintenance and the fixing of toilets would also be prioritised to ensure improved patient experience at the hospital.
“We will also address cash flow challenges, implement cost containment measures, redirect money to important projects and tighten up and review systems and processes to provide good service to our patients,” Bogoshi said.
They will also deal with accruals as well as address supply chain challenges.
Bogoshi is one of the first Masters of Science (Msc) Degree graduates at the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA). She also has MSc in Physiotherapy and holds a Diploma in Orthopedagogics as well as Master of Public Health for Hospital Managers from the University of Witwatersrand.
The new hospital chief has held various leadership roles that include being the General Secretary of the Youth League at MEDUNSA, Executive Committee Member of the South African Society of Physiotherapy and Executive Member of the Stroke Foundation.
She was also awarded a category A-Merit award in recognition of her sustained excellent service rendered at the Ga-Rankuwa Hospital.
Bogoshi kicked off her career at the Leratong Hospital in Krugersdorp as a junior physiotherapist from 1986 until 1989 before moving to Ga-Rankuwa Hospital in Pretoria where she was appointed chief physiotherapist in 1994 after being a senior physiotherapist for five years.
She works as an honorary lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Wits University - a position she has held from 1998 to date.
In 2000, she was the Acting Head at the Department of Physiotherapy until 2011 when she was appointed Assistant Director until 2003 when she assumed the Senior Clinical Executive position at the Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital until 2006.
Before being appointed Charlotte Maxeke Hospital CEO, she was the Helen Joseph Hospital CEO - a position she has held the past six years. – SAnews.gov.za
