Pretoria - Higher Education South Africa (HESA) yesterday announced the appointment of Professor Ihron Rensburg as its chairperson.
Prof Rensburg is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
Prior to taking over leadership at UJ he was the Chief Executive: Strategic Corporate Services at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). Up until 2001 he was the Deputy Director General at the Department of Education where he assisted in shaping policies and legislation for the post-apartheid schooling, further and higher education sub-sectors.
Higher Education South Africa was formed in May 2005, as the successor to the two statutory representative organisations for universities and technikons (now universities of technology), the South African Universities Vice-Chancellors Association (SAUVCA) and the Committee of Technikon Principals (CTP).
In a statement, HESA said Prof Rensburg would bring a depth of experience to the organisation.
