Pretoria – Newly appointed Ministers and Deputy Ministers to the national executive, announced by President Jacob Zuma yesterday, have been sworn in at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse, in Pretoria.
President Jacob Zuma announced changes to his Cabinet in a special briefing at the Union Buildings on Tuesday.
Today’s ceremony was presided over by Constitutional Court Judge, Justice Johan Froneman, who was standing in for Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who is out of the country.
The new Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is now Lechesa Tsenoli. He replaces Richard Baloyi, who served in the ministry after the death of Sicelo Shiceka.
Tsenoli left his portfolio as Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.
He has been a Member of Parliament since 2004. Prior to that, he was a member of the Free State provincial government from 1999.
Connie September takes over from Tokyo Sexwale, who headed the Human Settlements portfolio.
September was a Member of Parliament and Member of the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry and Portfolio Committee on Water Affairs and Forestry. She has been in the National Assembly since 1999.
Yunus Carrim, a former journalist and academic with strong struggle credentials, takes over from Dina Pule as Communications Minister.
Carrim was Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
John Jeffery, a Parliamentary Counsellor, is now Justice and Constitutional Development Deputy Minister.
Michael Masutha is now Science and Technology Deputy Minister.
Andries Nel takes over as Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, leaving his post of Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, while Pamela Tshwete assumes the role of Rural Development and Land Reform Deputy Minister. – SAnews.gov.za
