Pretoria - The two Vietnamese nationals arrested at OR Tambo International Airport last Thursday with ivory and rhino horns will remain in police custody until a translator is found.
Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development spokesperson, Andile Gumede, said the two were arrested after x-ray scanners at the airport showed possible rhino horns in a suitcase.
Gumede said the two, a 40-year-old male and a 30-year-old female, are facing charges of illegal possession of ivory and rhino horns.
"Since their arrest, they are still in police custody as there is a challenge of communication, so they will appear in court soon when the court finally gets a translator.
"They were seized with one front rhino horn, one back rhino horn, five elephant ivory tusks, 20 ivory chopsticks, 31 ivory bangles, 18 ivory blocks and three more ivory earrings," he said.
According to Gumede the seized goods are estimated at R500 000.
