Pretoria - The North West provincial government will this afternoon hold a memorial service to honour two of the 13 South African soldiers killed by the Seleka rebels in the Central African Republic (CAR).
Premier Thandi Modise is expected to deliver a keynote address at the memorial service, to be held at the Mmabatho Civic Centre at 2pm.
The memorial service is to honour Riflemen Karabo Edwin Matsheka and Vusumzi Joseph Ngaleka.
Gospel singer Winnie Mashaba, who is a goodwill ambassador supporting Premier Modise’s discretionary projects, will visit the family before her free-of-charge performance at the memorial service.
The service will be hosted by the provincial government, in partnership with the provincial legislature and the South African National Defence Force.
In recognition of 28-year-old Matsheka’s gallantry, Kgosi Jeff Montshioa of the Barolong Boo-Ratshidi Traditional Council, has allocated a burial site at the Maphacwe Cemetery reserved for Barolong Boo-Ratshidi chiefs.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at the Tribal Kgotla. - SAnews.gov.za
