Pretoria – Residents of Boitumelong township in Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality in the North West will on Monday get detailed answers to their demand for an investigation into allegations of fraud and maladministration in the council.
The MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Collen Maine, will give residents feedback on the issues raised by the community at Boitumelong stadium in the afternoon.
The community of Boitumelong had earlier this year staged violent protests in demand for an in-depth investigation into allegations of fraud, nepotism, corruption and maladministration against the municipality.
The violent protests saw houses belonging to the former municipal mayor, Rebecca Makodi, her relatives, councillors and police officials being torched, while the N12 between Kimberley and Johannesburg was barricaded with burning tyres and stones were thrown at passing motorists. - SAnews.gov.za
