Pretoria - Operation Fiela, a countrywide operation aimed at maintaining safety and stability within the communities, continues to yield positive results in the Free State.
A total of 941 people were arrested during this joint operation that was conducted from 1 to 17 June 2015.
The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, house robbery, business robbery, rape, assault GBH, robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, drug related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearm and undocumented persons.
Among the items confiscated were firearms, rounds of ammunitions, cattle, vehicles, cocaine, crystal meth and precious metals.
“We will continue to rid our communities of criminal activities and ensure that our province remains the safest in the country," said the Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe, on Thursday.
The objective of the operation is to rid the country of, inter alia, illegal weapons, drug dens, prostitution rings and other illegal activities. - SAnews.gov.za
