Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has conveyed condolences to Somalia following the death of its ambassador to South Africa, Sayid Sheriff, who died on Wednesday in Pretoria.

Sheriff was Somalia’s first ambassador to South Africa after decades of a non-functioning central government.

President Zuma said as the first Somali Ambassador to South Africa, Sheriff will always be remembered as having strengthened relations between the two countries.

“The South African Government reaffirms its commitment to continue its diplomatic relations and solidarity with the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” Zuma said.

Arrangements are being made for the repatriation of Sheriff’s body to Somalia. - SAnews.gov.za
