Pres Zuma ready to answer questions in Parliament

Friday, January 17, 2014

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is readily available to answer written and oral questions in Parliament this year, the Presidency says.

“President Zuma was available and ready to answer written and oral questions the whole of 2013 and previous years, and the year 2014 is no different, except for the national general elections,” spokesperson Mac Maharaj said.

This after the Democratic Alliance issued a statement to the effect that Zuma apparently does not want to answer questions in the National Assembly. The DA had suggested that the National Assembly has still not received a provisional date for when Zuma will be answering oral questions in the house during parliament’s first term of the year.

But Maharaj says the last reply to parliamentary questions in the National Assembly was submitted on 19th December 2013, which does not demonstrate a President who is unwilling to be accountable to parliament.

“The President's annual programme is still being finalised as usual around this time and once it is ready, it will be communicated to affected stakeholders through the correct channels.” - SAnews.gov.za
